The value of 5 cents....

Well - the humble 5 cent piece is going to disappear from NZ currency soon..... this means of course that most of the contents of my piggy bank will now be worthless and that a packet of crisps will now be $2.80 instead of $2.75. Apparently it costs 4 cents to make a 5 cent coin and that we've been wasting a lot of money in creating the coin.

I will miss the 5 cent piece - along with milk tokens, primary school and new editions of Footrot Flats cartoons. 5 cent pieces are also useful when you have lost your guitar pick....

    Good Riddance.

Not a definite thing yet though, the retailers are throwing their hands up in horror. I miss 1 cent lollies. :(

(They are thinking of making the 50, 20 and 10 cent pieces smaller, so the 10 will make a fine guitar pick)
